You can add a connection to enable Database Management SQL Watch.
If a connection to an External Database is not created or if you want to
use a different connector to enable SQL Watch, you can use one of the following
options on the Administration Managed databases page:
- Click Connect in the Status column
and add a connection.
- Click Enable in the SQL Watch
column and add a connection on the Select database page
of the Enable SQL Watch panel.
Note that you must have the required Management Agent permissions to add
a connection. For information, see Permissions Required to Enable SQL Watch.
To add a connection on the Select database page
of the Enable SQL Watch panel:
- On the Managed databases page for External Databases,
click Enable in the SQL Watch
column. For information, see Enable SQL Watch.
- On the Select database page in the Enable SQL
Watch panel, click + New connector.
- In the Add connection panel:
- Provide connector information:
- Connector display name: Optionally, edit
the default name assigned to the connector to help you easily
identify the resource.
- Agent: Select the Management
Agent to establish a connection. By default, the compartment
selected on the Managed databases page is displayed,
however, you can click Change compartment and select
another compartment, if required.
- Specify connection string information:
- DNS hostname or SCAN name:
Enter the fully-qualified domain name (FQDN) or IP address for a
single instance External Database or the FQDN of the Single
Client Access Name (SCAN) listener or the SCAN virtual IP
address for a RAC External Database.
- Port: Enter the port
number.
- Service: Enter the service
name of the External Database.
- Protocol: Select either the
TCP or TCPS
protocol to connect to the External Database.
- TLS secret: Select the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Vault service
secret that contains the database wallet from the drop-down
list. This field is only displayed if
TCPS is selected in the
Protocol field. If an existing
database wallet secret is not available, then select
Create new secret... in the drop-down
list. The Create TLS secret panel is
displayed and you can create a new secret. For detailed

see Create a
Connection to an External Database.
- Specify the credentials required to connect to the External
Database:
- User name: Enter the
database user name.
Note
This database
user must have certain additional privileges to use SQL
Watch. For information on the required privileges, see
Perform Prerequisite Tasks.
- Database user password: Enter
the database user password.
- Role: Select the role from
the available options.
- Credential name prefix:
Specify the first part of the full credential name. This value
is prefixed to a system-generated credential name to create the
full credential name.
- Credential name: Review the
credential name of the connection.
- Click Add connection.
On adding a new connection, you can select it on the Select
database page of the Enable SQL Watch
panel.
