Monitor Backups for a Specific Managed Database

You can monitor the backups created for a specific primary or Oracle Data Guard-configured standby CDB in Database Management.

Regular monitoring of backups ensures data integrity, prevents data loss, and verifies that backups are created successfully and are recoverable. In addition, you can detect corruption or storage issues before business operations are impacted.

Note

High Availability and backup monitoring in Database Management is only available for the External Databases and Oracle Cloud Databases for which Diagnostics & Management is enabled. It's not supported for Autonomous Databases.

Before you monitor backups, you must ensure that you've set the Advanced diagnostics preferred credential or a session credential. For information, see Set and Use Credentials.

For information on the privileges required to monitor backups, see Advanced Diagnostics Credential – User Privileges.

The information about the backups created for a specific primary or Oracle Data Guard-configured standby CDB in your fleet is displayed on the corresponding Managed database details page. To go directly to the Backup section on the Managed database details page, go to the High Availability fleet summary page and click the name of the database. If you're already on the Managed database details page, click Backup on the left pane under Resources.

In the Backup section, you can monitor the following information for the last seven days:

  • Backup summary: Displays a summary of the backups created for the database, which includes information such as the backup destination and the number of completed, failed, and running backups. You can click the link adjacent to the status to filter the list of backups.
  • Fast Recovery Area usage: Displays a summary of the fast recovery area usage, which includes information such as user reclaimable, user unreclaimable, and unused space.
  • Recovery window: Displays a summary of the current recovery window and the user-defined recovery window goal.
  • Last full backup: Displays the completion time and date of the last full backup.
  • Flashback: Displays whether flashback is enabled or not. If flashback is enabled, the oldest point-in-time to which you can flashback your database is also displayed.
  • Unprotected data window: Displays the current amount of potential data loss exposure for the backups.

The list of backups is also displayed in the Backup section. To filter this list, select from the options listed in the Filters drop-down list.
