Attaching Software Sources to an Instance

Attach a software source to an Oracle Linux instance in OS Management Hub to provide that instance with access to content.

Important

If an instance is a member of a group or assigned to a lifecycle stage, you can't change its associated software sources directly. Instead, manage its software sources through its associated group or lifecycle environment.

Don't know what to attach? For OCI instances, attach the repositories used by OCI platform images as a starting point.

  • Add Basic Details

    Enter the details for the job that attaches the software sources:

    Name: Enter a name for the job. The name doesn't need to be unique, because an Oracle Cloud Identifier (OCID) uniquely identifies the job. Avoid entering confidential information.

    Description: (Optional) Enter a description for the job. Avoid entering confidential information.

    Select Software Sources

    Select the compartment under List scope.

    Select the software sources to attach to the instance. Use the search box to find a specific software source.

    Tip

    Don't know what to attach? For OCI instances, attach the repositories used by OCI platform images as a starting point.

    Schedule Job

    Select when to run the job:

    • Run immediately: Select this option to run the job now.
    • Schedule: Select this option to run the job at a future date and time. Select the calendar icon to select a date and time.
      • Automatic Retry: When selected, if the initial execution of the job fails, the service retries the job up three times. Each retry is five minutes apart.

      • Show advanced options: Add tags to this resource.

        If you have permissions to create a resource, then you also have permissions to apply free-form tags to that resource. To apply a defined tag, you must have permissions to use the tag namespace. For more information about tagging, see Resource Tags. If you're not sure whether to apply tags, ask an administrator or skip this option. You can apply tags later.

    Attach Sources

    Verify you've selected the correct sources, and then click Attach.

    Click the View jobs notification to monitor the status of the software source attachment job.

  • Use the oci os-management-hub managed-instance attach-software-sources command and required parameters to attach a software source to a managed instance.

    oci os-management-hub managed-instance attach-software-source --managed-instance-id ocid --software-sources software-source-ocids [OPTIONS]

  • Run the AttachSoftwareSourcesToManagedInstance operation to attach a software source to an instance.
