Disaster Recovery of a Management Station

If a disaster occurs that renders a management station inoperable in OS Management Hub, you can recover by unregistering the station instance and then registering a new instance in its place.

You don't need to reconfigure profiles or instances that use the management station. Once you configure the replacement instance and register it as the station, client instances using the station automatically resume checking in with the service through the replacement station.

Record existing station details and unregister

  1. Open the navigation menu and click Observability & Management. Under OS Management Hub, click Management stations.
  2. Under List scope, select the compartment that contains the management station.
  3. Click the name of the inoperable station.
  4. Click the Configuration tab.
  5. Record the configuration for use in the replacement instance.

    • Hostname
    • Proxy address range
    • Proxy listening port
    • Proxy forward
    • Mirror storage path
    • Mirror listening port (http)
    • Mirror listening port (https)
    • SSL certification path
  6. Click the Management station information tab, and then click the Station managed instance.
  7. Unregister the inoperable instance currently acting as the management station. This can take up to 15 minutes.

Prepare the replacement instance

Important

Use the station configuration identified earlier to prepare the replacement instance. If you use other settings, client instances will remain disconnected from the service.
  1. Review the station system requirements and configure a replacement instance to act as the station.
  2. Confirm the replacement instance is resolvable on your network using the hostname defined in the station configuration.
  3. Allocate storage for the mirror and mount it on the mirror path defined in the station configuration.

    • If the mirror storage volume survived, you can reattach it to the replacement instance on the defined mirror path.
    • If you have a backup of the mirror volume, you can restore the mirror contents to the defined mirror path.
    • If you can't recover the mirror storage, you can sync the software sources after registering the replacement instance as a station.
  4. If used, ensure your SSL certificate paths are reachable from the replacement instance.

Register the replacement instance as the station

  1. Verify the management station resource isn't associated with the inoperable instance:
    1. Open the navigation menu and click Observability & Management. Under OS Management Hub, click Management stations.
    2. Under List scope, select the compartment that contains the management station.
    3. Click the name of the management station.
    4. On the Management station information tab, verify Station managed instance shows "-" (hyphen).
  2. Register the replacement instance as the station.

    Note the following exceptions:

  3. Wait several minutes for the station to become active and online within OS Management Hub.

    Note

Client instances can take up to 75 minutes to check in with the service and become active.
  4. Sync the software sources on the station.
