Creating a Custom Image
To create a custom image, Oracle recommends that you modify one of the base images provided by Oracle for use in Secure Desktops. Desktops that use the image will include the customizations, configuration, and software installed when you created the image.
Custom image types supported for Secure Desktops include:
- Oracle Linux 7 and 8 (other Linux distributions are not supported)
- Windows 10 and 11
Note
When launching a virtual machine from a platform image or custom image, a boot volume is created with the same size as the image. When manually launching a virtual machine, the size of the boot volume can be adjusted. A custom image created from that virtual machine will then include the new boot volume size. For more information, see Extending the Partition for the Boot Volume.

- Create a compute instance from a supplied base image. See Creating a Custom Image.
- Configure the image on the instance as necessary. See Configuring Desktop Images.
- To use the custom image for Secure Desktops, import the image into the desktop compartment and tag it appropriately. See Importing Images.
- An imported custom image only exists within a single region of a tenancy. You must export the image to copy it to another region.
