Creating a Transfer Capacity Request

Transfer resources from source tenancy to destination tenancy.

An order raised by customer in Capacity Management service demanding transfer of capacity from a source tenancy to a target tenancy. The request must include the source tenancy and target tenancy details with demanded resource quantity to the transferred or moved.

Source Tenancy: The customer tenancy from where the available capacity needs to be moved.

Target Tenancy: The customer tenancy to which the moved capacity is to be added.

As a customer, you can request for a capacity transfer for any one of the following reasons:
  • If you plan to optimize the usage of resources in source tenancy.
  • If you prefer to correct shortage of resource availability at the destination tenancy.
  • If you prefer to set up a temporary arrangement until resources under maintenance are available.
Note

In transfer capacity, the capacity isn't demanded from the availability catalog but based on the resources that are already provisioned in the source tenancy. Also, there is an agreement between the source tenancy owner and target tenancy owner in moving the resources.

    1. Open the navigation menu, click Governance and Administration, and then click Control Center.
    2. Click Capacity Requests.
    3. On the Capacity requests page, click Create capacity request.
    4. In the Create capacity request panel, provide the following details:
      1. Select Request type as Transfer.
      2. Select Compute as the namespace for the capacity request.
      3. Select a region.
      4. Provide a description for the capacity request.
      5. Use the date picker and select an expected capacity handover date.
    5. Under Transfer request, select one of the following options:
      • Fill request manually: Select this option to manually provide the following details for each resource that requires to be transferred from one tenancy to another.
        • Resource name
        • Source tenancy
        • Target tenancy
        • Transfer quantity
        • Availability domain
      • Upload request CSV: Select this option to update a CSV with all the resources to be transferred from one tenancy to another.
        1. Click Download blank CSV.
        2. Fill the capacity transfer details for all resources and save the file.
        3. Under Drop file, either drop the saved CSV file or click select one to browse and upload the saved CSV file.
    6. To submit the request immediately, click Create and Submit.
      Note

      After you submit, OCI creates and assigns a name to the request and you can view the request details in the Capacity requests summary table.
    7. Click Create and submit the request post creation.
    8. On the Capacity requests page, click the name of the new transfer capacity request you created to view the details.
      On the Request details page, you can view the following capacity transfer details:
      • Resource name
      • Source tenancy
      • Target tenancy
      • Transfer quantity
      • Availability domain

  • This task can't be performed using the CLI.

  • This task can't be performed using the API.
