Runbooks in Fleet Application Management

Runbooks allow you to capture procedural tasks for handling the maintenance operation of a resource and a fleet. It specifies how to manage fleet life cycle using runbooks in Fleet Application Management.

Fleet Application Management eases lifecycle management of OCI resources after they're provisioned and functional. One of these lifecycle management operations is applying patches on the products or applications in the resources. You can apply patches on these applications by scheduling lifecycle operations on a set of resource targets. The runbook operation service handles this action of applying patches on resources. The runbook operation service identifies and sends task-wise work requests immediately or later. For example, to know various runbook tasks when applying patches to the Oracle Database, see Getting a Runbook's Details.
The various components in a runbook that enable you to create workflows are under two categories:
  • Runbook tasks: Steps in a runbook that performs an action. A step's outcome can decide the next task.
  • Groups: A collection of tasks that run specific actions in a particular manner.

Create and configure custom runbooks associated with Oracle products and custom products defined under metadata management to automate the lifecycle operation tasks run on an environment.
