Use Database Management Service to Observe Databases

You can use Database Management Service to observe the health of a single Autonomous Database or a fleet of Autonomous Databases.

The Diagnostics & Management features available in the Database Management service assist with advanced monitoring and management of Autonomous Databases. Using a private endpoint, you can configure network access between Database Management and an Autonomous Database and use features such as AWR Explorer, SQL Tuning Advisor, and Performance Hub - Top Activity Lite.

Before you enable Database Management Diagnostics & Management for Autonomous Databases, you must:

Certain metrics and Performance Hub features continue to be available free of cost for Autonomous Databases. However, you must enable Database Management to use the advanced monitoring and management features, which are available at an additional cost.

After enabling the Diagnostics & Management features in Database Management, you can use the full suite of available capabilities to monitor and manage a single Autonomous Database or a fleet of Autonomous Databases. Here are some of the important performance monitoring and administration-related features:

  • Database fleet overview to monitor multiple databases in one location
  • Performance Hub for real-time monitoring of the database workload
  • AWR Explorer to visualize AWR data over time
  • SQL Monitoring to view top and current running SQL statements with detailed execution statistics
  • SQL performance tuning to optimize database performance
  • AWR and ADDM reports for in-depth performance analysis
  • User administration to track configuration and details of database users
  • Parameter configuration to update and monitor database configuration parameters
  • Database jobs to streamline collections and run at scale utilizing Database Groups

If you enabled Diagnostics & Management for Autonomous Databases on the Autonomous Database details page or in Database Management prior to September 2024, the advanced monitoring and management features may not be available. To enable and use these features for Autonomous Databases, you must provide the connection information in the Edit Database Management panel.
