Refresh a Disaster Recovery Plan
When you update the primary or standby DR protection group, all Active plans are moved to a Needs attention lifecycle state and Needs refresh sub-state. All plans in this condition must be first refreshed and then verified before they can be made Active and used.
Learn how to refresh a DR plan:
- Navigate to the Resource page for the DR protection group.
- Click the Plans link in the Resources panel to list the DR plans for the DR protection group.
- In the DR plan details page, click the Refresh option to open the Refresh plan confirmation dialog.
- Select Refresh to refresh the plan.
- Click Cancel to cancel refreshing of the DR plan.
Note
You can only refresh plans in the Needs attention state with a sub-state of Needs refresh. Plans that are Inactive and have a sub-state of Needs refresh cannot be refreshed.
After the plan is refreshed, its life-cycle state will remain in Needs attention and its sub-state will be Needs verification. Inspect the plan to ensure that the modified groups are in correct order. The updated groups and the corresponding steps are labeled as follows:
- Group Modified: Some steps have been added to or removed from this existing group.
- Group Added: This group has been newly added.
- Group Deleted: This existing group will be deleted. Deletion will occur after you verify the plan changes.
- Step added: This step has been newly added.
- Step Deleted: This existing step will be deleted. Deletion will occur after you verify the plan changes.
Note
In certain situations, after a plan is refreshed, you will not see any added, deleted, or modified steps and groups. In this situation, you must still verify the plan.
- You must verify all the updates to the plan by clicking Verify. Once you verify, all the groups and steps marked as Deleted will be removed from the plan. All groups and steps labeled as Added will be included in the plan. All group and step labels are removed once the plan is verified.
Note
You cannot make any updates to the plan while it is in the verification stage. - All plans associated with the primary DR protection group will initially be in an Inactive state. If you update either the primary or standby DR protection group, then these plans will be updated, and their life-cycle state will remain Inactive, however their sub-state will change to Needs refresh.
- After any updates are made to either the primary or standby DR protection group, all plans will be updated, and their life-cycle state will change to Needs attention and sub-state will change to Needs refresh.
- Understanding the DR Plan Refresh Process
During a DR plan refresh, the plan is updated to add new groups and steps and remove the existing groups and steps to reflect updates made to the primary or standby DR protection group.
