Viewing Oracle Radio Locations
Use Locations to view available personnel positions and review one person's recorded movement.
For the request used by a supported client to report its authenticated user's position, see REST location updates.
On a narrow browser screen, select Filters to show the location filter controls. Select it again to collapse them. Wider layouts show the controls directly.
To talk without leaving this browser page, use the floating control when enabled. Verify its transmit channel separately from the map selection.
When Locations is available in your application, open the navigation menu and select
Locations under Applications. Use Live for the latest available positions or History for recorded positions.
The people shown depend on the channels available in this view and the location data returned for their members. The application-wide workspace loads at most 25 saved channels. All visible personnel includes only people with returned coordinates from that loaded set, not every accessible Radio user. People in saved channels outside that set might not appear. A person who isn't listed might still have recorded location history.
A visible person's marker is highlighted while Radio reports that person transmitting on a channel shown in the view. The marker description identifies the transmitting state; animation can be reduced by your device settings. This indication is available in the application-wide and channel Locations views. It doesn't establish that the displayed position is current or that another user received the audio. Check the position's update time separately.
You can also inspect a selected channel's members from its Locations tab. That view uses different controls from the application-wide Locations page.
Sharing This Browser's Location
When browser location sharing is available, Radio asks Share this browser's location? before enabling it. Select Continue and allow the browser's location request to share, or select Not now to leave sharing off. The choice applies to this browser, not every device used by your account.
To change the choice, open Settings, select Location, and change Share this browser's location. Review the status to confirm whether a position was sent. While sharing remains enabled, Radio retains a temporarily failed position for retry and requests a current reading again when the connection or browser becomes active. Your browser must support location access, and the service must accept the update. See Radio settings and sharing guidance.
Reported positions can be shown to authorized users and used for configured geofence actions. Joining or leaving a channel, changing the map filter, and pausing live updates don't stop browser location reporting. Use the sharing switch to stop new reports from this browser; this doesn't delete previously reported positions.
If no personnel positions are available, the map can center on the available browser coordinate while showing No personnel locations available. Map centering alone doesn't establish that your position appears as a personnel report or that other users can see it.
Mobile Location Permissions
Review your organization's location-sharing requirements before allowing the mobile app to report your position. Permissions differ by platform; background communication doesn't imply background location tracking.
On Android, also review the app's location-sharing choice before going on duty, especially on a shared device. The device can retain that choice when a different user signs in; each user must accept the current agreement, and sharing requires a valid authenticated on-duty session and the required device permissions. Turn sharing off or go off duty to stop new location reports. This doesn't delete positions already reported.
On Android, member maps follow the app's Light, Dark, or System appearance. Changing appearance preserves the current map position and zoom. See map appearance.
- Enable device location services and review the location permission for Oracle Radio in the device's application settings.
- Allow the location access required for your platform:
- Android: Allow precise location and background location access for Radio location tracking.
- iOS: Allow location access while using the app. Oracle Radio uses When In Use authorization and doesn't track location in the background.
- Check the reported position and update time in Locations. A stale position or a transmitting marker isn't confirmation of a new location report.
If your position isn't available, follow the location guidance.
Viewing Android Map Information
In the Android app's full-screen channel member map, use Map Info to review the map legend and automatic channel registration details.
- Select Map Info to open the bottom drawer.
- Expand the drawer as needed to read the legend and available automatic channel details.
- Swipe the drawer down, select outside it, or use Android Back to return to the map.
Opening or closing the drawer preserves the map position. It doesn't change location permissions or channel subscriptions. For those settings, see mobile permissions and geofence behavior.
Viewing Current Positions
Review the last reported positions of the personnel available to you.
Geofences and Channel Subscriptions
A geofence is a configured geographic boundary for a channel. Its ID and name are saved with its definition; reloading the application doesn't discard its saved name.
When geofence-based subscriptions are available and configured, reported locations can add a saved channel subscription on entry or remove it on exit. The geofence must be enabled and configured for the corresponding automatic action. An automatic subscription still requires permission and channel access; entering a boundary doesn't grant access.
Automatic removal on exit can remove a channel subscription that you added manually. Radio doesn't preserve a separate manual subscription when the geofence removes it. Ask an administrator to review the exit action if you need to remain subscribed after leaving the boundary.
In Radio, an applied membership notification updates the channel's joined state and displays Joined or Left with the channel name. The notification doesn't identify the geofence by name. Check the channel's connection state before using it, and follow the talk procedure before speaking.
Show geofences changes only the map display. Hiding boundaries or pausing the Locations page doesn't disable configured geofence actions or stop location reporting.
To configure a channel boundary and its automatic actions, see geofence administration.
For integrations, see geofence events. If an expected subscription doesn't change, follow geofence troubleshooting.
Viewing Locations for a Channel
You need access to the channel and its location data. For history, you need radio.message.history; you and the selected person must be active members of the channel, and history must be available for the instance.
Viewing Location History
Location history must be available for the instance. You need radio.message.history, channel visibility, and active membership in the requested channel for both you and the person whose history you review.
Review one person's recorded positions at a time. The selected time range requests available records; it doesn't guarantee a complete movement history or a retention period.
