Registering an OCI Instance

Register an OCI instance with OS Management Hub by enabling the Oracle Cloud Agent service plugin and selecting a profile.

Important

OS Management Hub requires minimum Oracle Cloud Agent version 1.40. For instances using platform images released before April 2024, upgrade the Oracle Cloud Agent to 1.40 or later.

New OCI Instance

  1. Follow the steps to create an instance, but use the following settings.
  2. For networking settings, ensure that the instance has either a public IP address or a service gateway, as described in the Networking Requirements.
  3. Enable the OS Management Hub Agent plugin.
    1. Click Show Advanced Options.
    2. On the Oracle Cloud Agent tab, select the OS Management Hub Agent.
    3. Select a profile to register the instance.
  4. Click Create.

Existing OCI Instance

For instances upgraded with Leapp, see the workaround in Known Issue: Can't register OCI instances upgraded using Leapp.
  1. Install the Oracle Cloud Agent software, if it's not already installed. Verify the version is 1.40.0 or later.
  2. Open the navigation menu, click Compute, and then click Instances.
  3. Click the instance that you want to register.
  4. Click the Oracle Cloud Agent tab.
  5. Enable the OS Management Hub Agent.
  6. Select a profile to use to register the instance.

    You can select the service-provided profile in the root compartment or a user-created profile.

  7. Wait up to 10 minutes for the Oracle Cloud Agent to enable the OS Management Hub Agent plugin.

Verify Instance Registration and Details

Verify the instance registered with OS Management Hub.

  1. Open the navigation menu and click Observability & Management. Under OS Management Hub, click Instances.
  2. Under List scope, select the compartment that contains the instance.
  3. Confirm the instance appears in the table, and verify the status is Active.

  4. Click the name of the instance to view its details.

    Under Instance information, you can view details about the instance, such as the registration profile it used to register with the service and whether it's a member of a group or lifecycle environment, if applicable.

    Note

    The instance might take a few minutes to report the initial package and module inventory to the service.
